Property management in Ecuador Ecuador shows interest in Brazil's social and labor programs

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and his Ecuadorian counterpart Rafael Correa on Wednesday signed agreements concerning social sectors, especially the labor and land investment in Ecuador sector.

According to Brazil's Ministry of Labor, the Ecuadorian government is interested in better getting to know the work of Brazilian labor inspectors and the Program to Eradicate Child Labor (PETI).

During his visit to Brazil, Correa demonstrated an interest in another government project: the Bolsa Familia (Family Tuition Assistance), which provides monthly financial support for families that have difficulty in keeping their children in school.

A committee of Ecuadorian specialists is expected to visit Brazil in September of this year to monitor the program, while a Brazilian committee is scheduled to travel to Ecuador in October to speak on the methodology of the activities carried out in the projects.

The two presidents announced that government officials from both countries will gather in 15 days to discuss the construction of a highway and a waterway linking the ports of Manta, in Ecuador, and Manaus, in the Brazilian state of Amazonas.

President Lula said that Ecuador will become a new transportation axis for Asia, Africa and Europe. The Brazilian government said it would invest 400 million U.S. dollars in the project.

Earlier on Wednesday, the two nations' state-owned oil and gas companies Petrobras and Petroecuador signed cooperation agreements on field exploitation and production of alternative fuels in Ecuador. Other agreements concern such sectors as defense, tourism, information technology, foreign relations, the culture of tropical fruits and the protection of indigenous people's health conditions.
