Surrounding areas: The village of Kiten is situated 6 km south of Primorsko and is situated on a small peninsula, surrounded by two picturesque gulfs. Kiten has two beach streaks - north and south. The north one " Atliman", called also the children's one, with fine sand and calm sea is protected by the sea and inland winds, and the south, which is the bigger one, borders the Kitenska river - rich in chub, carp and barbel. The settlement was founded by people from Odrin Thrace. Its history leads back to ancient times proved by the amphora found on the south beach, dating back to the 6th century BC.
Kiten inherited the ancient fortress Urdoviza, the ruins of which can still be seen on the peninsula. The Romans called the village Orudiza. The historical sources point that the settlement existed till the country was conquered by the Ottoman Turks. The first name of Kiten was Urdoviza by the name of Stana Urdoviza - a beautiful Bulgarian woman, loved by the Turkish sultan. The Sultan promised her that he will liberate the territory through which she could walk till sunset. She managed to exempt from taxes the territory of Strandja and she found her death together with her horse Atliman on the Kiten's north beach, which is presently named Atliman (the Horse's gulf).
Kiten is a modern resort where there are small private luxurious hotels, accommodations and holiday houses. There are six camping places southwards of the village: Kiten, Yug, Koral, Nestinarka, Oazis and Arapia that are offering a holiday in a bungalow. Various and delicious food of the Bulgarian, Turkish, Russian and the Greek cuisine is served in the numerous and cozy restaurants in Kiten. The coastal road connects Pr imorsko with the modern holiday village Djuni. The coast where the village is situated is hilly, surrounded by forests and full of scattered all over small villas with typical Bulgarian renaissance architecture.
The only decoration of the complex is the nature itself - the dunes and abundant vegetation. The sea in the gulf, where "Djuni" is situated is calm, with no instant change in the sea depth which makes it a secure place for children. The gulf is protected by nature by the northern winds and draughts. There are excellent conditions for practicing water sports. As the holiday village "Djuni" is situated in the nature preserved area, it gained the award 'Blue Flag" for clean environment. The holiday village consists of 3 main zones, each of them with its own unique architecture, style and atmosphere:
"Zelenika", "Marina" and "Pelican". The resort includes: luxurious restaurants, as well as small and cozy ones; day bars, night clubs and coffee shops; 7 tennis courts; swimming pools for children and for adults; sports places; bicycles and car rentals; kindergartens and specially equipped for children places. These services make "Djuni" a perfect family resort place. The natural reserve "Ropotamo" is located not far away from Kiten, as well as the protected by law territories "Arkutino", "Water lilies", "Morski pelin", and the swamp "Stamopulo".
The Devil's river and Ropotamo are passing through the town's neighborhoods. The Devil's river comes from the Devil's swamp, which is lower than the sea-level. The gulf, that is named by it and formed by the river and the swamp, has characteristics of ? firth, swamps, surrounded by reeds bulrush. The beauty of Bulgaria can not stop captivating the native people as well as all foreign visitors. Our Great Bulgaria provides us the choice between mountain and summer recreational tourism.
One of the Bulgarian mountains gives us the poss ibility to admire its miraculous nature. Strandja mountain - awesome and enchanting. Not many rivers come from the mountain, but there is one particular that is captivating with its enigmatic beauty. The river of Ropotamo comes from countryside near the village of Bosna. The most particular characteristic of the river is that its waters are salty. In its upper end the river waters are fresh but after several kilometers they become salty. The "King's well", along the Ropotamo river banks, was the only part of the South Black sea coast where the water was fresh.
There's a wide variety of fauna and flora in the nature surrounding the river. The tourists admire every turtle, egret, snake and bird they see along the riverside. The river is a natural inhabitant of three types of turtles. There are mainly sea species in the salty part of the river - chub, grey mullet and gobies. During some of the seasons the waters of Ropotamo become dark brown and muddy in colour, and almost look dirty but they are not eventually. Nature here is ecologically preserved and clean, and the river waters gain their colour due to the red plankton reproduction.
Hunting and fishing are absolutely forbidden in the area of the river Ropotamo. The area around the river outflow is a nature reserve named "Ropotamo", where are worth seeing the many queer rock formations, along the river and especially one of them called "The lion's head". This is a rock which resembles a gigantic head of a lion that guards the nature phenomenon there. The enormous natural stone formation attracts immediately the eyes of the visiting tourists. The legend says that up on top of the rock there's a 30 m deep well where was hidden a golden treasure.
The treasure-hunters are looking for it for years. The rock is reachable only by land. But the one who attempts to do it must be rather patient and good in climbing. The spectacular "Maslen nos" (meaning "Butter-colour peak") is situated 6 km south of Primorsko. It attracts the tourists with its wild and unique beauty and with its falsefiords.
