Cuban real estate Sol Meliá consolidates its position in Cuba

Sol Meliá, Spain`s leading hotel company, is sticking to its expansion projects in major tourist circuits of Cuba where it`s currently running 22 facilities with as many as 20,000 sea apartment in Cuba in all, sources close to the company`s front office indicated.

Francisco Camps, director of Operations and Development for Sol Meliá, pointed out investment lines on the island nation include hotels under construction in Cayo Santa Maria off the central province of Villa Clara- Cayo Largo del Sur and Holguin, the latter in eastern Cuba.

Sol Meliá is also beefing up its stance on Cuba`s keys where the Spanish megabuck company is already running a walloping 2,510 accommodations of the nearly 9,000 rooms under its wing on the island nation, the latest issue of Business in Cuba weekly reported.

Sol Meliá, ranked tenth in the world and third in Europe among hotel chains, operates in Varadero, Havana, the northern keys, Cayo Guillermo and Cayo Coco, off the central province of Ciego de Avila, and Cayo Largo in the southwestern waters off the island.

The company took charge of the building the Meliá Cayo Santa Maria resort which will be part of a 1,750-room lodging compound.

In Cayo Largo del Sur, Sol Meliá (with 350 hotels in over 30 countries under its belt) is already breaking ground to build a Paradisus-style establishment on the key with 50 rooms that`ll be overlooking a gorgeous lagoon.
