This makes the atmosphere of Chernomoretz quite pleasant and predisposes to complete relaxation and rest.
Climate: The influence of the sea determines the climate in Chernomoretz. The summer and the autumn are continuous and warm but without drastically high temperatures. The average temperature of the air in July is 23?C and of the water - 21?C. The winter is mild and warm.
History: In the past the settlement has been called Saint Nikolas because of an icon, brought by sea, depicting the Wonder-maker’s image. The cult of Saint Nikolas as a patron of sailors and fishermen penetrates the Bulgarian land during the VIII – IX centuries.
In folklore beliefs the Saint sails on a golden vessel, which always arrives where people need his wonder-making right-hand. It’s he whom God has assigned the power to pacify the storms and the sea elements and to save the poor men that have got in trouble. A legend tells also of the origin of a monastery by the village of Emona. Due to it, once upon a time while walking over The Balkan Mountain the Saint was chased by a Turkish posse. He rushed towards the sea looking for deliverance and the earth below started growing from under his feet and spreading towards the sea.
On the spot where he eventually stopped the local congregation built a monastery called after him, which served as a fortress against the invaders.
Surrounding areas: 25 km to the north of Chernomoretz the city of Burgas which is situated. It is the second district center on the Bulgarian Black Sea cost. The city has an airport, railway station, bus stations and a port. Burgas is the fourth biggest city in Bulgaria following Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna. It is a successor of the small Roman town called Deultum that used to function as a military colony.
The settlement was renamed Develt which gave the name of the present-day village of Debelt. Later on, a curative center nearby the numerous mineral springs in this region was built. During the Middle Ages the fortress of Pirgos, which obviously used to be an observant tower, was erected. Ultimately in XVII century Burgas gets its present-day name.

Together with the Puppet Theater they outline the cultural life of the town. On the south end of The Burgas Bay – only at 6 km away from Chernomoretz – is situated the oldest town on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast – Sozopol. It is built up on a scenic rocky peninsula and is recognized to be one of the most beautiful and romantic Black Sea resorts. About 5000 inhabitants live in the town.
In 670 B.C. the Asian town of Milet was left by some emigrants, who arrived here and founded their own town and named it Apollonia in honor of the god of beauty Apollonius. Also in his honor the residents built up a 13 meter tall bronze statue. The rise of the town is attributed to the flourishing trade with the big centers of Ancient Hellas – Athens, Corinthos, the islands of Rhodos, Chios and Lesbos.
These days Sozopol is a town that combines the ancient and modern times and the architectural ensembles aptly link the old and the new towns.
The fascinating atmosphere, the two beaches and the vernacular houses of Sozopol, bringing additional romantics turned this town into a favorite tourist destination. A promenade along the cobblestoned lanes of the old town bring you back in the past centuries.
The Holy Virgin Mary church (XVII century), The Saint Zosimos church, The Archaeological Museum holding a collection of amphora, anchors and various ship models as well as The Art Gallery are objects of great interest by the tourists.
At 12 kilometers south of Sozopol you can visit the reserve of Ropotamo. It has a surface of 1000 hectares and is spread about on both sides of the two banks of the Ropotamo River. The river is not wide and does not strike with turbulent flow and waterfalls but the entire beauty of it comes from the magnificent dense forest, surrounding it and the beautiful water-lilies. The dense vegetation overwhelms with its beautiful, virgin plant world. Ropotamo is formed by the Rosenska and Tserovska Rivers, both of which originate from Strandzha Mountain and is altogether 50 kilometers long.
At its upper flow the river’s waters are fresh but a few kilometers further they are salt due to the proximity of the sea. The river banks are scenic – steep, terraced slopes alternate with solitary rocks. The queerest rocky formation among them is the so-called Lion’s Head. A journey with a boat along the river can be a unique experience for you and your family and friends.
