Tzarevo municipality is situated in the south-eastern part of the Republic of Bulgaria, 65 km south of the city of Burgas. On the east it has as a natural border the Black sea, the west border is the adjacent municipality of Malko Tarnovo, Turkey is to the south and Primorsko municipality is to the north.
The beautiful, sandy shores are the the natural attraction, used to develope this area as a tourist destination. Sixteen sandy beaches with an overall length of 9184 m have been formed along the coast of the municipality, with the town of Tzarevo itself spread over three lagoons.
The southernmost lagoon, right outside the town is known by the locals as Nestinarka. Right in its center, 100m off the beach with a direct sea view is to be built the “Nestinarka” complex. At a very close distance to the south, is found TUI’s four-star hotel.
The first part of the complex project, including groups A, B, C and an aqua complex is to be completed by the end of june 2007. The whole complex is to be completed in 2009. The project includes parking places, 3 tennis courts, large aqua complex with wet bar, adult’s and children’s pool and jacuzzi, 2 restourants, fitness and a medical center, children’s playground, laundry – common service, variety of stores and a reception desk.
Veleka river,(whose downstream ( the last ten kilometers ) is navigable, is passing through the territory of the as well.
The population of Tzarevo municipality is 9813 citizens with the town of Tzarevo alone of 6270 citizens.
It is also the main port, south of Burgas. The biggest advantages of Tzarevo are its unique situation (very close to the Bosphorus) and the clean seawaters. Since 1995, Tzarevo is an international port. Winters here are soft, which makes yachts and small vessels’ stay possible during the whole year. This fact makes the port quite popular among the skippers.
The large variety of natural, cultural and architectural spots makes Tzarevo municipality one of the most attractive in East Bulgaria. The unique complex of sea, mountain and rivers, exotic and encyclopedic flora and fauna along with the old traditions and authentic Strandzha mountain culture, gives many opportunities for the development of tourism – sightseeing, ecotourism, yachttourism, photo and hobby tourism, hunting, etc.

What does “Nestinar” means? Where is it coming from?
The following have been created for you to extend a bridge between the past and the future, and show you a tiny fragment of the cultural heritage of our very Bulgarian nation. We introduce you to something unique, almost unknown though it has existed in the heart of Europe for centuries on. The phenomenon called Nestinarstvo still remains unveiled; an enigma posing many unanswered questions. But one thing is for certain, it can deeply touch anyone.
This text is a result of the desire to acquaint the world with an ancient custom, and also to show that the dance on embers (today often commercialized) is only a facet of an intricate complex, in which the central position belongs to the never-changing values of the human spirit and the eternal search for happiness.
The ability of establishing a contact with the saint patrons and the ancestors in states of trance and dream visions, is the most important characteristic of Nestinarstvo. The final expression of that ability - the dance on embers - is a typical, but not a constant component of the ritual. The prophecies usually deal with the fate of the village, state, and people's future. Nestinars have always been righteous people with a prophetic gift. That is why they have always received the deep respect of the whole community. In the past the local people sought their help and advice. The nestinar's counsel usually included an instruction for something to be given away by the sick person, or the one in predicament. According to an old legend St.Constantine visited an ill woman and told her: " If you dance in fire, you will be healthy again." In the beginning she started with making prophecies, and after a year she was able to dance in fire.
The skill to walk on embers (without being burnt) is the most impressing and important one. Some medical specialists have observed that the skin of the nestinars' feet is very delicate, without callosities. Despite the different duration of the dances on embers (not less than 10 min.), the nestinars' feet remain intact, without a slight trace of cauterization. It has been proved that a callosity is not a protection because very often some nestinars "bury" their feet ankle-deep in the embers. There exist some psychological theories of the observed phenomenon, but they do not provide satisfactory explanations. The famous Bulgarian specialist Doctor Garvalov has stated that callosities are cornea layers that can burn much faster than normal skin.
Another curious fact is that, during the dance some dropped by the nestinars objects (kerchiefs, the touch of clothes, etc.) do not burn. Some people have witnessed cases in which the nestinars sit on the embers, and even lie on them.
Many scientists are absolutely positive that at temperatures above 70°C human proteins denaturalize. The temperature of the embers is minimum 400°C. Specialists also consider that the nestinars' peculiar psychic state can explain the insensitivity to pain, but not the lack of burn damages. It is accepted without any surprise or bewilderment by nestinars and their fellow villagers. Miracles are to them something phenomenal but at the same time natural, from the point of view of folklore mentality; and an inevitable manifestation of charisma. Nestinars treat their skill as a gift, and are deeply convinced that their power comes from their unhesitant faith and trust in the saint patrons.
Nestinarstvo is a unique phenomenon, which still remains unveiled; a mystery posing many unanswered questions.
In Strandzha Mountain the celebration ritual begins in the Sunday before St.St. Constantine and Helena's Day. On the Thursday before the 3rd and 4th of June, the nestinars celebrate the so-called "Little Constantine".
