BULGARIAN CULTURE

Layered on the important crossroad between Europe and Asia the nowadays Bulgarian lands are settled from centuries ago. All nations who lived on these lands – Thracians, Bulgarians, Slavs – are leaving their mark in the world cultural treasury. In the hundreds of tombs the Thracians and their ancestors leave unforgettable high-artistic models of the material and spiritual culture. World famous are the necropolis of Varna 4 000 years B.C., which keeps the oldest processed gold in the world, the Thracian tombs and sanctuaries in Kazanlak, Sveshtari, Starosel, Aleksandrovo, the numerous valued throughout the whole world Thracian golden treasures. There are plenty of Greek, Roman and Byzantine monuments since the antiquity and the early middle ages. The Bulgarians inherit this high culture, enrich it with their thousands of ages experience, keep it and evolve it until now. They give to the world their calendar, the first alphabet in Slav language, made by the brothers Cyril and Metodi, announced by the church for patrons of Europe, the Slav-Bulgarian translation of the holly books, the Madara horseman. The national folk art kept until now the freshness of the national customs and songs, the national crafts. Nowadays the Bulgarian culture is proud with its achievements in the aria of literature, art, music and architecture.
